Principal
Ms. P. Watema, Principal Mutare Polytechnic
Ms Poniso Watema is the Principal of Mutare Polytechnic She became an educationists in 1984.She taught Food and Nutrition, Home Economics and Geography at various secondary schools that include Nemakonde High, Victoria High, Ndarama High. In 1993 she joined Masvingo Polytechnic as a lecturer and she rose through the ranks to become Vice Principal in 2012-2014.In 2014 she was promoted to Principal, Mutare Polytechnic to date.
 
A holder of the following qualifications
 MSc in Tourism and Hospitality Management (UZ). This has seen her establishing the
Tourism and Hopitality department at Muasvingo Polytechnic in 2005.
 B Ed in Home Economics UZ
 Secondary Teachers Certificate in Home Economics Gweru Teachers College
 Certificate in Systemic Counselling
 Certificate in CBET
Current Secretary General of the Principals of Polytechnics and Industrial Training Colleges (PPITC) 
Research Interests
She has interests in Design, Sustainability and Entrepreneurship and has passion for seeing innovative and creative artisans, technician’s technologists who stand a chance to contribute to industrialisation and modernisation of Zimbabwe
She also advocates for gender equality in training, encourages female students to take up courses in those areas that are said to male dominated fields.
A leader par excellence who has demonstrated apt leadership skills that has seen her transforming the institution to a Pacesetter brand, recognized nationally. She has won several accolades for both the institution and her self.
A recipient of several awards including:
1. 2019 CEO of the year, Gold winner, Special Recognition for demonstrating an
exceptional commitment to the business professional through conduct of a meta- analysis and profundity thoughts, Megafest Eastern Region Awards.
2. 2019 CEO of the year, silver winner, Special Recognition for being a Disruptive and Relevant Business Strategist, Megafest National Awards.
3. 2018 Principal of the year,Second Runner, Polytechnics, Megafest National Awards.
4. 2018 Female Manager of the year winner, Special Recognition for being a disruptive and relevant business strategist,Megafest Eastern Region Awards.
5. 2018 ZNCC, Business Leadership award, First Runner Up,Manicaland Region.
6. The 2017 Women’s Top Leadership Excellence Award – Special Recognition in Higher and Tertiary Education Science and Technology Development awarded by Women’s Heritage World Society Organisation in conjunction with Zimbabwe Business Awards Council.

Dr Chabwera Vice Principal

Dr. Stefani Chabwera was appointed as the new Vice Principal of Mutare Polytechnic with effect from 16 August 2021.

Dr. Chabwera’s appointment follows the resignation of Mr Chapeyama in April 2020.
This announcement was made during a senior and middle management welcoming meeting held at Mutare Polytechnic on 25 August 2021.
The Principal of Mutare Polytechnic, Ms Poniso Watema said Dr Chabwera brings years of experience to the position and is expected to be an asset in the new role.
In response to his appointment, Dr Chabwera said polytechnics have a responsibility to cause industry through innovations that respond to societal challenges and expectations. TVET is a tool for social and economic transformation. Moreso, we are going to work as a team and together we can,” he said.
 
Dr Chabwera holds a University of Zimbabwe Certificate in Education from Gweru Teachers College Bachelor of Arts in Communication and English from the University of South Africa,Master of Education in Educational Management from Zimbabwe Open University.
 
He received his Doctor of Education in Educational Management from University of South Africa. He taught English Language and Literature in English for 12 years at various secondary schools.
Dr Chabwera then joined Bulawayo Polytechnic in January 2003 as a Communication lecturer
and while at the polytechnic he became a Lecturer in charge in the same department.
 
He was appointed Head of department Adult and Continuing Education from January 2008 to February 2016.
Dr Chabwera has interest in Research, Quality assurance and Poetry Writing and has co-authored and published a Research Paper entitled ' Accessing inclusive Education at Bulawayo polytechnic-Everante Financial Management Journal October 2016.
 
While at Bulawayo Polytechnic, Dr Chabwera was awarded the Principal's Awards of Excellence for the best performing department from 2009 to 2012.
