    VISION

    Provision of sound civil engineering knowledge and solutions to real life problems, both in academics and practical skill exposure in the built environment sphere.

    MISSION

    To be a leading department in producing knowledgeable construction professionals who are able to duly deliver as expected in the industry in line with the build environment civil and quantity surveying market trends

    CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

    The Department has highly qualified technical staff in three different courses that fall under the Civil Engineering namely Civil Engineering, Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering and Quantity Surveying. The Department fall under the Civil and Construction Division at Mutare Polytechnic and specialises in grooming technicians and technologists who hold the reins of the Design and Construction Industry of Zimbabwe and beyond. The Civil Engineering Course is offered from National Certificate level up to Higher National Diploma level whilst Quantity Surveying and Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering are offered from National Certificate to National Diploma Level.

    CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

    The department offers courses in Civil Engineering, Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering and Quantity Surveying.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Levels with a grade C or better including Mathematics, English and any Science subject. Those with a background of Technical Drawing,‘A’ Level Maths and Sciences have an added advantage.

    CIVIL ENGINEERING COURSE

    COURSE AIMS

    The Civil Engineering course aims to develop the trainee with basic knowledge, skills and attitudes to carry out Civil Engineering works in the community, and also to develop a technician with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to carry out water, transportation, structural and geotechnical engineering works.

    OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

    On completion of the course the graduate should be able to:

    • draw and interpret civil engineering designs

    • design civil engineering works

    • manage effectively both office and site works

    • assist in research and development work for civil engineering design

    • apply information technology systems in designs and site works

    • manage financial, human and material resources effectively

    • demonstrate patriotism to national issues

    • demonstrate a critical, logical and objective approach to problem solving at the work place

    • implement safety, health environment and quality regulations in the work place

    NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

    WATER RESOURCES AND IRRIGATION ENGINEERING COURSE

    COURSE AIMS

    The Irrigation Engineering Course aims to develop an assistant technician with knowledge, skills and attitudes required to carry out water resources engineering works in the community.

    OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

    On completion of the course the graduate should be able to:

    • draw and interpret irrigation engineering designs

    • manage effectively both office and site works

    • assist in research and development work for irrigation engineering designs

    • apply computer skills in carrying out operations in irrigation

    • manage financial, human and material resources effectively

    • demonstrate patriotism to national issues

    • demonstrate a critical , logical and objective approach to problem solving at the work place

    • implement safety, health environment and quality regulations in the work place

    • apply entrepreneurial/business skills in the field of irrigation engineering

    QUANTITY SURVEYING

    COURSE AIMS

    The Quantity Surveying Course aims to equip an assistant technician with fundamental skills attitudes and knowledge in construction work, estimation, tendering and measurement or taking off quantities.

    • manage effectively both office and site works

    • apply computer skills in carrying out operations in Quantity Surveying
